Dawn at Wyangala and dusk on Forbes banks means a long drive and tired fishing. Pick Option A or Option B.
Option A — Lake Wyangala storage weekend
Base
Cowra or lakeside parks — see stay and upper guide.
Day 1
- Arrive mid-afternoon; shop; check DPI status and WaterNSW lake context
- Evening look at ramps / foreshore in daylight (no night launching on unfamiliar banks)
- Early night
Day 2
- Dawn or early session from craft or bank when conditions allow
- Midday heat break; dry gear; food
- Late afternoon second session if energy and conditions allow
- PFDs on craft; watch stump fields at lower levels
Day 3 (optional)
- Short morning only; drive home before you are too tired
Option B — Mid-river natives weekend
Base
Forbes or Condobolin — services and food. See mid guide.
Day 1
- Arrive; confirm DPI rules for mid-river waters
- Daylight look at town river parks, Lake Forbes or Gum Bend edges
- Do not trespass private banks because a forum said so
- After floods: mud and debris — cancel if access is unsafe
Day 2
- Fish one access area; watch snags and boat traffic
- Plan around plains-edge heat
- Never fish from or swim near weir structures
Packing for either option
- Valid licence proof
- Sun, layers, polarised glasses, first aid
- PFD if fishing from craft
- Rubbish bags; leave banks clean
- Tell someone where you are fishing if banks are remote
What not to do
- Do not rely on memory for closed-water or bag rules
- Do not wade cold release water carelessly below Wyangala
- Do not combine a late sculpture slog with a 4am start
